My Current Opinion

Between Ages

by Guy Spiro

We live in the in-between times.

Neither Piscean nor quite yet Aquarian, the times we live in now are those of the well known Chinese curse, "May you live in interesting times." It's not surprising that these look like the end times to those of that persuasion. The end of the Mayan Calendar. The end of a millenium. And the end of an age all happening at once will tend to shake things and folks up. These are interesting times indeed.

By my reckoning, we're about halfway through the age change from Pisces to Aquarius. Ages run roughly 2000 to 2400 years with about a 500 year period of overlap when people and cultures go through the change at their own pace. In general, the Western world is further through the change than some other cultures. Different cultures, as with individuals, will adapt to the theme of the new age in their own way and at their own rate of speed. Just as the various Piscean age religions reflected the theme of surrender in their own ways, the cultures of the emerging Aquarian age will express the theme of self responsibility in their own ways.

No one can deny that life has changed radically over the past 250 or so years. Frightening to many people is the fact that the rate of change continues to accelerate. My grandmother rode in a horsedrawn wagon from southern Illinois to Oklahoma as a little girl in the early part of this century. In her lifetime she went from that horse drawn wagon to seeing men walk on the Moon. Compared to the rate of change during the whole of recorded history, the changes I have seen in 45 years are staggering. We cannot imagine what will happen in the next 45 years let alone the next 250 or so as we move more firmly into Aquarius.

In the late 20th century we find ourselves on the brink. Of what we do not know, but we do know it's big. We are rapidly gaining the technology to create heaven or hell on the earth and the jury isn't even out yet. We seem to be at the make or break point but no one really knows where exactly that point is. Many fear that we are already past it. But I believe that we are simply in the birthing pains of a new order of consciousness and perhaps a new order of humanity.
