My Spirit Flies: Portraits and Prose of Women in Their Power
by M. Cathy Angell is more than a collection of photographs and
essays. Perhaps the blurb on the back cover says it best: "It
is about a collaborative process that allowed 35 women to name,
then honor, the moments in their lives when they feel passionate,
strong, focused, creative and balanced. Times when they feel good
about themselves, love what they are doing, and are coming from
a place of truth. The process was validating for some. Transformational
for others.
"Immerse yourself in their places of power, then discover
your own."
Each titled photograph of a woman doing what she loves is accompanied
by a short passage in which she tells how she feels as she gives
back to Nature, or the world, or the Universe the creative process
that is uniquely her own. The portraits aren't prettied up with
models, but are of women as they are, bright, peaceful, enthralled,
focused on whatever they're doing. Some bring a tear to the eye.
Just as inspirational are the accompanying passages. (Bay City Press, $24.95)
In a tiny book about a stupendous subject, author Patrice
Karst explains, in God Made Easy (Warner Treasures, $6.95!),
some of the answers seekers have sought for millennia. As Larry
Dossey says, "Pure Gold -- a distillation of wisdom that
will enrich anyone's spiritual journey," and Dr. Bernie Siegel
is equally impressed. Dedicated to the hope and vision that all
the beings, in all the worlds, will one day be happy, author Karst
writes in a most succinct and pleasant fashion about the good
stuff, a few words per subject. This is a lovely little book to
consider as a gift to yourself or someone special.
