Some Adventures in the Supermind

What's it like "up there" in the Supermind?

Last month I spoke about "Living in the Supermind," with a discussion of how to get "up there." But what is it like up there? We can know as we enter into the super-planes of meditation. In what follows, I would like to describe some of my own meditative experiences, experiences which have shown me what it is like "up there".

We must remember it is important to cultivate the "quiet mind" constantly, to know and appreciate the fact that the high thought realm is the spirit realm, to suspend doubt when thought images and high messages come in, to tolerate unpleasant emotions and restless impulses that would take us away from the lofty solitude of Mind-still. Practicing these principles, we will realize more and more that the spiritual realm is all around, and accessible. Then we can bring this peace, quietude, and magnificent detachment into our lives, to releasing the soul and spirit within. Speaking simply, we can become better people, better citizens, lovers, fathers and mothers, better contributors to each other and to this lovely planet we call home.

Following are some meditations with commentary on what they have meant to me:

SPIRIT MIND, SPIRIT WORLD - WE ARE EVOLVING

We are evolving, and in the future we will be only spirits, communicating with each other vibrationally, inter-fusion-ally, and with the spirit and soul of the Mother Earth, and the planets and the sun, and on and on. We see this happening already as we leave the body in meditation, leaving everything which is lower in vibration and cruder, into the kingdom of peace, which is consciousness and vibration and interfusing and becoming one.

I noticed today that there is a whole world of everything in a drop of water. There are these one-celled organisms moving about with their flagella, little hairs which move like oars. There are amoeba-like creatures, ingesting in order to live. I became each of them with their life-force. I became the water buffalo who was pursued and suffocated-killed and subsequently eaten, his mind being out of his body at that point. I became the lions who were hungry and then sated. So -- like amoeba or paramecia or water buffalo or lion, I understood because I lived each of them. I became each of them. And this is how it will be in the future, but without the eating and the pain and the competition. Each in the other, the other in each, and all of this in the context of love. No fear. No competition. No selfishness. Love and togetherness.

And I knew that my peace was the peace that I feel in being loved by so many: my wife, my children, my close friends, my patients. I am in a sea of love and I pour forth love, and wanting to help and care, as a part of my heart. I live in that sea in which my love and their love are all mixed together and moving in waves of love.

Commentary: There are so many things in the upper world which we can realize in meditation, thought, dreams and fantasy, and if we take them as real on that plane we will understand. For example, this matter of becoming a one-celled organism, or a water buffalo, or a hungry and then sated lion, is not so far removed from our daily life! Is it not so when we really empathize or sympathize with a loved one in tragedy? Do we not become them for a moment? Is not this the identification with a loved one that the whole world felt during the tragedy of Princess Diana's untimely death? In this process, we fuse our spirit-ego with that of the other in the upper planes, and sense and feel, and become united. This is the basis for intuitive connection. Two souls, fusing. As we enlarge this capacity and realization, we can come to love not only our neighbors but this beautiful planet and all its inhabitants. And when we do this we are living in the Superworld and the Supermind. And isn't it strange, but true, that this is also accompanied by that great feeling of peace that we achieve in deep meditation. It is told that when we feel this peace we are close to the soul, and living in the soul realm.

Another meditation:

FUSION

If I were to ask for someone else's experience, or to try to translate mine, it would be a great struggle to interpret it and relay it in terms of words. But as we ascend into the next race of men/women, and become more intuitive and more empathic, we will be essentially fusing our subtle bodies with that of the other. In so doing there is a transmission, an immediate understanding, much in the nature of intuition and mind-reading. And that's the way it is up there: the flow, the empathy, the intuitive joining, the transmission, the mental telepathy. All of this goes along with the quietude and ease, so different from the heaviness of this gravity-laden world.

Commentary: It is true that this material plane is a gravity-laden world, and that it is harder to move, and create, and fuse, and love than it is in the thought realm or in the higher spirit realms. Yet we can achieve this, as we practice, practice putting ourselves in someone else's place in order to understand them rather than to quickly judge them from our experience alone. We can become empathic mind readers. The time arrived, in the course of my doing psychotherapy, that I was able to hear what my patient would say even before it was said. But that capacity is not mine alone. It is latent within all of us if we were to cultivate empathy, and employ it in the understanding of our fellow human beings.

And one more:

THOUGHT FORMS

Old songs came to me; they had to do with love. I visualized a couple in love, and then realized that love is a thought form "up there," a concrete something which sensitives can see. Something which I thought I could not; but it is up there, and I can. I see it as a couple embracing, in this instance, and I go to meet it as I see it. If I think of love of humanity, I think of someone embracing a whole host of people, even the entire planet.

These images, I believe, are not simply constructions piled brick upon brick, images learned from childhood on. They are, instead, ready-made forms which are up there in the universal ether, in the archplane. They are known to all of us instinctively, intuitively, God-sensitively. And so we meet it when language indicates it. It is a capacity which is within all of us.

Languages call the change of a verb to a noun "nominalization." Therefore, "to love" would become a thing called "love." But these nominalizations are universally known, individual language aside, just as we are told by those who study language. They tell us that the basic themes and principles of language are the same no matter their country of origin. These universal themes are the guideposts on the journey to find ourselves -- who we are and where we are, for we are all from the same place, we are all one.

Commentary: In an earlier column in The Monthly Aspectarian, I spoke of the Archplan, God's plan. The Archplan is a plan which resides in the subtle realms and which gives form, much like a stencil or a mold, to material manifestation. All of our material forms are preceded by such a form-setter in the etheric realm.

The etheric realm surrounds us and all material manifestation. It can be thought of as a kind of energy mist which contains forms, molded there by yet higher forces of intelligence, which then are communicated to the material realm. Goethe, the great poet and naturalist made this clear when he pointed out that when we see a flower in blossom we are not seeing the flower, but only a part of it. The real flower is the entire plan from seed to stem to leaf to blossom to seed again. This is the archplan for the flower. It exists in the subtle realm, and when we recognize a flower we are communicating with that form. This is indeed, I believe, the entire plan for the universe, and therefore I have called it, idiomatically, God's Plan.

This coordinates with many things including the discovery that all language is the same in its basic construction. If all language is the same, for all nations, in its basis, then are we not all the same -- inside?

Along with this is another about thought:

THOUGHT IS SUPERMIND

There is a truth to this and there is a Supermind beyond thought, as is experienced when I go into the "knowing-beyond-knowing," the velvety blackness, blankness, without thought without anything except a sense of knowing of more, beyond thought, knowing there is something more to come.

Thought is the Supermind, is intermediary between us on this ordinary plane and the Superplanes which are beyond thought. And yet thought is without space, without time, without limitation. Thought is ever creative. There is, however, something missing when we speak only of thought, for we do not speak of love, except insofar as thought invokes love, or love invokes thought.

"Love is the wanting to come together, the wanting to give, the wanting to spread goodness, happiness, lovingness, all around, and in spreading it all around embracing, drawing near, drawing unto and drawing within, so that all embraced becomes the one point of togetherness, the one point of potential which can expand into the loving creativity and creation of all manifestation."

Commentary: There is a world above us which guides us, which communicates with us, and which has a form of its own. Even thoughts take form, but again in a filmy and spiritual way, not a way that is measured by our three-dimensional instruments. Thus, when we see someone picturing lovers embracing, there is a thought-form which exists, and which we are contacting. When someone loves the planet and embraces it, literally puts arms around it in the upper planes (which in their own way are as real as this material plane), there is a similar experience and image in the subtle realms, and this is what is imaged. And isn't true, that if there is a universality in the archplans then there is an underlying universality of our souls, which we can join all together in loving, communal effort to make this a spiritual, even heavenly world.

We can also know that there is a world beyond thought, for after all, thought is limited by our limited human capacity. Yet as we evolve through the peaceful, intuitive mind, we can sense more as we do when we "feel" and sense that there is something more. As we appreciate such things we evolve in personality, and help the planet and our neighbors to also ascend into the next race of men/women.

In summary:

These are glimpses of what it is like up there: a heavenly world which exists all around us, and from which we are shielded by the doubt of our "scientific" society. If, however, we allow ourselves to develop inner peace, a still mind and detachment from selfish desire, we can enter into and enjoy the beauty and love that exists both within and around us. But we must re-orient, and let our personality ascend into peace and altruistic longing to enjoy ourselves through union with our fellow-humans and indeed with all of God's creations.
