Joining millions of people across the globe for the 14th annual event, Rev. Anne B. Schmitt, pastor of the McHenry County Church of Religious Science will lead a World Healing Meditation Service for the first time at Borders Books and Music in Crystal Lake at 6AM on New Year's Eve Day, Friday, December 31, 1999. The World Healing Meditation began in 1986 when more than 500 million people came together in one moment in time to think peace, radiate love, and release spiritual energy for the good of all. "I was one of those 500 million," Rev. Anne explained. "Noon Greenwich time is 4AM in California," she continued, "yet that did not deter a couple hundred of us from being part of that first service. It was and is a moving experience when we realize that at that same moment, millions of people around the world are also gathered to think peace, radiate love, and speak the beautiful words of the Meditation." The World Healing Meditation has continued each year in churches, centers, temples, private gatherings and public events around the world at noon Greenwich time on December 31. This year, the McHenry County Church of Religious Science and Borders Books and Music in Crystal Lake are joining together to bring their community an inspirational public event. For more information, please contact Rev. Anne B. Schmitt at 815/337-9848 or Elisabeth Ritter, Community Relations Coordinator for Borders Books and Music at 815/455-0302.

It may be a blizzard in the northeastern U.S. or a hurricane in the south; a tornado in the midwest or an earthquake in the west. Suddenly you are left without electricity and possibly without safe water. Many groups have recommendations aimed at helping the general public cope with these kinds of disasters. They call for use of foods like canned tuna, canned meat and powered milk. What about vegetarians or vegans? What sort of plans should they make? To order the four-page Disaster Planning for Vegetarians, send a self addressed envelope with two fist class stamps to Disaster Planning, The Vegetarian Resource Group, P.O.
