The 34th annual conference of The American Dance Therapy Association, entitled "Mosaic of the New Millennium - Creating Partnerships Within Healing Communities," will be held November 4-7 at the Holiday Inn City Center in Chicago. Dance/Movement Therapy is the psychotherapeutic use of movement as a process that furthers the emotional, social, cognitive and physical integration of the individual. Working with a wide range of illness, Dance/Movement Therapists practice in the fields of mental health, medical rehabilitation, education, disease prevention, forensic, geriatric care and health promotion. For over fifty years, Dance/Movement Therapists have been pioneers of the in-depth understanding of how the body and mind interact in health and illness . . . be it an illness of the mind which is embodied, or an illness of the body that impacts on the mental functioning and spirit. The Association, founded in 1966, has worked to maintain the highest standards of professional education and competence in the field, and maintains a registry of therapists who have met stringent requirements of education and experience. The event will gather hundreds of Dance/Movement Therapists from around the world to attend more than 30 educational seminars and workshops. Included will be international panelists from France, Japan, Israel, Argentina and many other countries. Highlighted lectures include the keynote address by Dr. Richard Schwartz of the Family Institute at Northwestern University and Dance/Movement Therapist Barbara Cargill. A long-time meditation practitioner and teacher, her extensive knowledge of geomantic traditions -- Eastern and Western -- brings a unique and uplifting perspective to her designs.
