INSTRUCTIONS FOR LIFE AND THE LOST CHORD

Ordinarily, I don't bother with e-mail chain letters. However, I recently received an e-mail called "Instructions for Life" based on the Dalai Lama's Message for the Millennium and it certainly contains good advice. In addition, this is a message that is being sent around the world. And, the friend who forwarded this e-mail had already experienced an amazing blessing just by receiving it!

The e-mail was sent from the Netherlands by a person with my friend's last name. Now that wouldn't be unusual for most people, but it was for her. As my friend put it: "My father came to this country at the age of two. He was an only child. His father had one brother who, to my knowledge, was a Catholic priest. There are no others with my name in this country that I have found, except for my father's second wife."

One or two years ago, my friend found about 40 matching last names on a European phone list. Two of those had e-mail addresses, but none replied to her e-mail contact. Then, out of the blue, she received "Instructions for Life" and suddenly a contact is made with a long lost family member.

"I guess I am already getting surprises!" she stated. So, read on, dear reader. Who knows, perhaps you and I, too, will receive some pleasant surprises through our efforts.

Instructions for Life
1. Take into account that great love and great achievements involve great risk.
2. When you lose, don't lose the lesson.
3. Follow the three Rs: Respect for self; Respect for others; and Responsibility for all your actions.
4. Remember that not getting what you want is sometimes a wonderful stroke of luck.
5. Learn the rules so you know how to break them properly.
6. Don't let a little dispute injure a great friendship.
7. When you realize you've made a mistake, take immediate steps to correct it.
8. Spend some time alone every day.
9. Open your arms to change, but don't let go of your values.
10. Remember that silence is sometimes the best answer.
11. Live a good, honorable life. Then when you get older and think back, you'll be able to enjoy it a second time.
12. In disagreements with loved ones, deal only with the current situation. Don't bring up the past.
13. Share your knowledge. It's a way to achieve immortality.
14. Be gentle with the earth.
15. Once a year, go someplace you've never been before.
16. Remember that the best relationship is one in which your love for each other exceeds your need for each other.
17. Judge your success by what you had to give up in order to get it.
18. Approach love and cooking with reckless abandon.

The catch: Here's what I don't like about chain letters. The beautiful words are usually followed by instructions that require you to send the message on to others in order to receive a blessing. The "Instructions for Life" chain e-mail states that you should "forward this mantra e-mail to at least five people and your life will improve." It even provides a rating based on the number of people you send it to:

* 0-4 people: Your life will improve slightly. (Note: Even if you don't send it on, I guess you'll get some improvement.)
* 5-9 people: Your life will improve to your liking.
* 9-14 people: You will have at least five surprises in the next three weeks. (Note: I hope they're all pleasant!)
* 15 people and above: Your life will improve drastically and everything you ever dreamed of will begin to take shape.

Oh, well, at least there are no dire predictions contained in this e-mail chain. If there were, I would have hit the delete button and ignored it. But, the message is a good one and it certainly won't hurt others to hear some good advice from the Dalai Lama. Personally, I believe you can improve your life drastically all by yourself by focusing the God source energy within you on your hopes and desires. However, positive actions that reinforce those desires can act as fuel to generate results. Writing down a list of your desires or making a picture collage of them are examples of this kind of positive action. For some, sending something like "Instructions for Life" to others could also serve as a reinforcement. It's up to you to decide, however. Whatever you do, don't feel guilty about not following the "send" directions when you get an e-mail chain letter. That would definitely be counterproductive.

The Lost Chord
If you don't get a chance to actually attend The Lost Chord Conference sponsored by international sound healing and harmonics pioneer Jonathan Goldman in Colorado on August 2 - 6, then please do yourself a favor and visit his Web site at http://healingsounds.com. I got a taste of Goldman's magic while attending a workshop in May in Estes Park, Colorado where an enchanting evening was spent moving to the sounds of this master's Trance Tara. The Healing Sounds Web site is also magical. It provides a perfect introduction to sound healing and harmonics. The design is simple, but the information is extensive.

For example, Goldman includes full sample chapters from his books like Shifting Frequencies (chapter 9) and The Lost Chord (chapter 15). The sample chapters and a host of other information including interviews and articles can be found in the section called "Jonathan Goldman."

Goldman is a writer, musician and teacher who has studied with the masters of sound from both the scientific and spiritual traditions, including the Dalai Lama's Chanting Gyuto and Gyume Monks. His biography states that Goldman has been empowered by the Chant Master of the Drepung Loseling Monastery to teach Tibetan overtone chanting. He is also an initiate into the Hindu lineage as Swami Nadananda Saraswati.

On top of all this, Goldman channels an angelic being called Shamael. In chapter 15 of The Lost Chord, Shamael states that the world was created through sound. "You are nothing more or less than vibration," says Shamael. "Your physical body, etheric bodies and other bodies are merely vibrating at different speeds or different rates of being. It is important to learn to be able to consciously change the vibrations of these different bodies in order to be able to acclimate to the different frequency shifts that are occurring on your planet now."

If you do get to the Lost Chord Conference, Goldman and other presenters promise that you'll:
* Learn sonic techniques, exercises and rituals.
* Create interdimensional gateways for spirit.
* Experience vibratory acceleration for ascension.
* Resonate through chant, tone, visualization.

If you can't get to Colorado, however, there are other ways to learn. The Healing Sounds web site contains a complete list of Goldman's books, cassettes and CDs. And, there is the "Healing Sounds Correspondence Course," which requires a commitment of working with sound for approximately 15 minutes a day for 16 weeks. You can even get a jumpstart on using healing sounds by learning an exercise on the resonance of the chakras with vowel sounds. Goldman personally uses this exercise each day. "From my experience," he states, "the etheric centers known as the chakras can be balanced and resonated with one's own voice."

The Healing Sounds Web site is definitely worth a bookmark. In fact, it's worthwhile printing out much of the information so you can use it as a starting point of your studies in sound healing and harmonics.
