Dear Louise,
I am looking for some insight with respect to my life's purpose. I am
an elementary school teacher who has taught for ten years. I have a good
rapport with my students; in fact, my students from previous years still
write to me and send me their pictures. Parents always stop to tell me
how their children enjoyed having me as their teacher. I am truly grateful
for the love I receive from these beautiful children who come to my classroom,
yet I'm becoming fatigued and burnt out. I am exhausted at the end of
the day. I feel like I give too much energy teaching, and now it's catching
up with me. Recently, I had precancerous cells removed from my cervix.
I know my dis-ease is related to my work, but I'm not clear how.
My friends and family cannot understand why I am thinking of leaving
my career. All my life I wanted to teach and thought that this was my
life's purpose. Now I want to do something else. Maybe it's time. Although
I will miss the children, I certainly won't miss the schoolwork. Any advice?
- A.M.N., St. Louis, MO
Dear A.M.N.,
Your recent dis-ease in the area you described is probably related to
holding onto resentment you feel toward others who are putting pressure
on you. I think you still love your profession, but you do not love the
administration and management that go along with teaching in a structured
environment. Everything in your letter points to your genuine passion
for teaching. Perhaps your current focus of looking for signs on how to
change your life's purpose is not the correct one, which is why you are
not receiving an answer.
My intuition is telling me that you might look at this passion in a new
way. Have
you ever considered going outside of the educational system, yet still
continuing your love for teaching in another arena? Have you ever thought
about teaching teachers who do what you do? Or choosing one area of teaching
that you like, such as the arts, languages, science, social studies or
math, and just specializing in that area outside of a school setting?
Perhaps you could work at a tutoring center, which would allow you more
flexibility. The possibilities are endless!
Affirm: THERE IS ALWAYS A WAY TO CONTINUE TO DO WHAT I LOVE WITH JOY!
Dear Louise,
I just read your book You Can Heal Your Life, but I am new to these metaphysical
ideas and still feel lost. So much is wrong with my life that I don't
know where to start. I know you have helped many people. Can you help
me? I would be willing to fly to wherever you are. How do I make an appointment
with you to have a private session? I want to learn how to heal myself.
Thank you so much.
S.M., Brazil
Dear S.M.,
Although I no longer do private counseling, there are teachers trained
in my philosophy throughout the world. They are all listed on the Internet
at www.louisehayteachers.com. Perhaps you would be interested in contacting
one of the graduates of the Louise Hay Certified Teacher Training Program,
or even their teacher herself.
Patricia Crane, Ph.D., is the facilitator of these courses and is a wonderful
teacher and facilitator whom I highly recommend. Patricia has trained
with me since 1986, and she has led workshops all over the world. The
teacher training program began in 1995, and there are now graduates throughout
the United States and in more than 20 countries, including two in Norway
and one in Croatia. For information, write to: HAY TEACHER TRAINING, P.O.

Dear Louise,
Many times from healers/readers I have been told to balance my feminine
and masculine sides. I have tried, but I am not sure how. I also have
a few spots that have come upon my face in the corners of my mouth. Could
this be what they mean? I have worked through my childhood and realized
influences from my mother and father. How do I complete this balancing
process? Please help.
H.H., London
Dear H.H.
When we talk about balancing our masculine and feminine sides, we are
referring to becoming a whole person. I would suggest that you develop
within yourself the positive characteristics of both men and women. Be
strong, be independent, and be capable. Also, be soft, be loving, be nurturing
and be intuitive. Allow these different parts to come out at different
times, depending on the situation. Perhaps these healers/readers found
you either a bit too wimpy or too aggressive and are suggesting that there
are more parts of you to be expressed.
I have a great Louise Hay counselor for you to work with in London. His
name is Trader Selkirk, and his number is 181 778 1386.
In the meantime, keep knowing and affirming: I AM A WHOLE, COMPLETE PERSON
WHO ENJOYS ALL OF LIFE.
