My sister with whom I live (we are both seniors) isn't well and will be facing surgery soon. My problem is that when I cry about this situation, I get optical migraines. So, in order to avoid these, I don't allow myself to break down. I pray instead. What's your advice to me?

Thank you, and God bless.

-- C.H., Hollywood, CA

Dear C.H.,

It saddens my heart when I hear so many older people going in "for surgery." I always think of that as a last resort. I wonder how much your sister has worked with nutrition and complementary healing. Removing junk foods from the diet and eating whole, fresh, natural foods can contribute so much toward healing.

It seems to me that you're carrying some guilt about being responsible for your sister. We're all under the law of our own consciousness and will do it our way. I think the reason you get optical migraines is because you have had a lifetime of holding in your emotions. Find a therapist to work with, and release the burdens you have been carrying all these years. Go dancing. Sing a silly nursery rhyme. Create some joy in your life. You need to laugh.

Affirm: My sister and I are divinely protected and guided. That which is for our higher good unfolds perfectly before us. We joyfully trust the process.

Dear Louise,

I will soon be divorced, and have a 20-month-old son who recently developed a serious ear and sinus infection. I'm wondering if he developed this because I was relating some facts about his father to a friend while he was present.

He's fine now, but I would like to know if the environment around my son makes a difference for his future health.

-- J.T., New Jersey

Dear J.T.,

Yes, children are very receptive to the emotional environment around them. Your son, even though young, is trying to heal the relationship between you and your husband. Do your best to always speak positively about your husband in front of your son. On the physical level, young children often develop ear infections from ingesting dairy products. It would be good to remove these from his diet for now.

You have my empathy. Single mothers have so many difficult challenges to cope with. May your affirmations be strong and always include attracting all the help you need to provide a comfortable life for you and your son.

Affirm: I trust the Universe to provide a loving, prosperous life for my son and me.

Dear Louise,

I have long been a fan of yours. I am now a massage therapist and a physical therapy assistant. Recently I've seen patients with muscle problems, in particular RSD (reflex sympathetic dystrophy). Do you have any affirmations for this? Thank you.

--L.B., Toronto, Canada

Dear L.B.,

Stress and resentment contribute to many of the muscular problems out there today. RSD is a chronic burning pain that can result in a dystrophy in the muscles. Burning pain can indicate unresolved anger, and pain in the muscles usually is associated with guilt or a belief in victimization. We find it so hard to "let go," and yet we are only hurting ourselves by holding on.

Some affirmations to use are: I let the past pass. I appreciate and accept my whole, willing, courageous, and healed self. As my love for myself grows, the peace within me blossoms. I release the blame and resentment, and I am free.
