Dear Louise, I'm a 50-year-old woman who has read your books for the past 11 years and who has worked with a very good therapist on my hard past life, dealing with issues of physical abuse and harassment by men. I used to repeat "I love and approve of myself" in the mirror, but I stop and start and stop and start. I'm currently unemployed and angry at myself for not keeping up with the affirmations. I finally restarted, and I've been repeating them every day for the last 15 days. Nothing has happened, and I'd like to know the average course of time that it can take to start healing myself. I really need encouragement, because I want to go forward now and really heal myself. -- D.V., Brussels, Belgium Dear D.V., Dear One, I hear so much self-hatred in your voice. I want to take that little child within you and hold it tenderly and tell it that it's loved and safe. However, you are the only one who can do this. Your inner child needs love from youtender, understanding love. If you say your affirmations with anger, they'll never work, no matter how long you do them. Two affirmations said with love and compassion could break through the barrier that you have set up within you. You're refusing to give yourself the love and nourishment you longed for as a child. You have the choice of continuing to punish yourself with your anger for another 50 years, or you can make the next 50 a joy to live. Every thought you think is an affirmation. You seem to do negative, angry affirmations all the time--and see how well they're working? You'll never have a happy life if you sit in a puddle of resentment and self-pity. Get out of the past. Stop working on your "hard past life" and begin to focus on creating your joyful new life ahead of you. All you have to do is begin to think happy, joyful thoughts. These are positive affirmations in themselves. Before you go to sleep, write down six things that you're grateful for. Let's know that your healing begins now. Affirm: I NOW ALLOW MY GOOD TO COME IN. I ACCEPT AND APPRECIATE ALL THE GOOD IN MY LIFE. ****** Dear Louise, I'm a talented singer and songwriter, and I long to be performing and selling my music professionally so that I can make a living doing what I enjoy most. However, I always seem to come across obstacles, such as having to work in sleazy pubs. I'm not sure which way to turn to make the best of my life. I'm studying healing arts, learning about helping people, and counseling, but I can't seem to make a success of my musical talents. I find it hard to believe in myself long enough to sustain input into any musical venture, and also find that the world of business sickens me. In addition, I suffer with depression and am often dogged by suicidal fantasies. I feel like I've been on this carousel for years and can't seem to break free. I'm finding the ways of this planet too hard to deal with at present. -- O.M., London, England Dear O.M., Oh, my dear, I hear your cries. There are so many avenues available to you, as you know, from studying the healing arts and learning about helping people. Remember, you're a people, too. Begin to treat yourself as you would a client. Love the child within you. Exercise to help release the depression. Turn your mind around. Learn to speak in positive affirmations instead of poverty affirmations. Express gratitude constantly, and Life will give you more to be grateful about. Also, you're so blessed to have an excellent homeopathic practitioner in London: Trader Selkirk: 44 208 778 1386. I've used him for years. He will help you to break free. Affirm: THE TURNING POINT IN MY LIFE HAS COME. I AM OPEN AND RECEPTIVE TO LIVING A LIFE I LOVE. ****** Dear Louise, My mother and I have been doing our spiritual work together. However, she's having difficulty loving herself, and her health and personal issues are beginning to suffer. She says she asks God daily for help, but she's made statements reflecting that she doesn't believe she's worthy. She's having trouble shaking her old religious guilt and has feelings of not being good enough. I give her any encouragement I can. This all feels like it's over my head. Could you give me some powerful affirmations to help her combat her fear and help her through her difficult state? -- G.N., Detroit, MI Dear G.N., The best thing you can do for your mother is to heal your own issues. Her thoughts have nothing to do with you. Your thoughts are shaping your life. Let her see by your own example what can happen when someone changes their thinking. Continue to do your own positive affirmations, and when she expresses doubt, say: I FEEL FINE, AND LIFE IS GOOD. Don't force your mother--set an example instead! Louise L.
