Contacting God--Within Us
Scientists are now showing the power of the mind to influence the world.

Many years ago, at a time when I was deeply immersed in conventional psychiatry and psychoanalysis, I met a blind physicist. Let's call him Len. He was extraordinary, with a massive head, enormous knowledge as a physicist and a part of a group that combined to provide distant healing for many in need. Len impressed me so that I was able to set aside my academic straitjacket and listen with rapt attention as he described a piece of machinery that could take a sample of the body, saliva, blood, anything, and measure any and all constituents of the body--by their wave signature. No longer would it be necessary to draw blood for a blood count, or for liver function tests. It could be measured by the subtle waves they emanated which were then recorded. The greater magic was that by broadcasting complementary waves or antagonistic waves, the constant (talent, or disorder) could be appropriately increased or cancelled. I walked with Len from medical institution to medical institution to seek interest, but there was nothing there. Len has since departed this realm, but I had never forgotten his idea, and have been thrilled and excited to see various instruments appearing on the scene that follow a similar principle.

Dr. James Ochsman (NIH researcher) has described in his important book (Energy Medicine: The Scientific Basis) how the SQUID will measure magnetic energy impulses, and relates these discoveries to the projection of subtle energies from the hands of a Reiki practitioner, or the mind of a meditator. Dr. Narayan G. Patel (associated with the University of Pennsylvania) authority in Ayurvedic medicine, is pursuing the discovery of blockages to the flow of various acupuncture meridia (with the help of specialized computers) and then relieving them with the application of the appropriate herbal medicine to release the flow. Again this is a matter of energy measurement, the discovery of energy disharmony, and the re-establishment of energy flow for health.

In addition, a host of books have appeared upon the scene, all pointing to the immense, in fact, the infinite, power of the subtle energy realms within us. These are books which now translate the God within us into physics, into physical demonstration of the creative Divinity that we are.

Most recently I have read Power Versus Force by David R. Hawkins, M.D., Ph.D. [see Monthly Aspectarian, MONTH-02 for excerpt.] Dr. Hawkins takes the art and science of kinesiology to demonstrate that we can easily tap into the Truth that resides within us. Following the work of the heart, he teaches us to apply its principles to the answer for any question that we may seek. This is the dedication to the pursuit of truth. Truth within us and truth surrounding us and truth infusing us. Kinesiology indicates that certain substances will cause test muscles to go weak or go strong, strong being truth, weak untruth. These tests are so sensitive that they respond to thoughts and emotions as well. And so, we can learn if a thought or statement is true or false, an emotion authentic or feigned, even a prediction true or untrue. The test is made in a very simple way. A subject will stand straight with arm extended and resist the assistant pushing the arm down with gentle force. If the thought or (medicinal substance being held in the other hand) is a truth (the substance is good for the body) the arm will stay strong. If the thought is an untruth (or the substance harmful to the body) the arm will grow consistently weak.

This is evidence of the fact that we carry within us a truth instrument. This truth instrument is in itself a part of divine knowledge. It betokens the fact that deep within us we contact the all-important, all- connected, all-divine Surround, and that as we surrender by keeping a quiet mind we contact that divine Power. Dr. Hawkins applies this principle to all walks of life and, in fact, it points a way to the ultimately divine society. For if we can be trained to know and recognize and speak the truth, then there can be neither deception nor even struggle between us.

Shakespeare pointed the way when he wrote, "This above all, to thine own self be true. Then it must follow as night the day, thou canst not then be false to any man." This discovery is part of an emerging truth. Scientists are now showing the power of the mind to influence the world. Professor William Tiller has written Science and Human Evolution and more recently (with colleagues), Conscious Acts of Creation. Tiller shows that the emanations of the mind can create significant effects on both body and the material world. The power of mind creates an atmosphere for good or ill in physical terms.

James Ochsman, Ph.D. (again in Energy Medicine: A Scientific Basis) points to the fact that every part within us is connected with every other part through ever more discreet branching connective tissue. Candace Pert (Molecules of Emotion) indicates in the same way that neurochemicals relate each portion of the body to every other portion. This internal holistic principle is in itself a reflection of the larger Holism in which each part of the universe is connected with every other part. In fact, each part therefore knows every other part.

Thomas Troward, way back in 1904, gave us The Edinburgh and Doré Lectures on Mental Science. There, with penetrating logic, he demonstrated that we carry within us and are a part of a universal creative energy. This universal creative energy in itself is indifferent to results. It doesn't have an intention to take part in deciding an individual's life or an individual product, but it does stand ready to respond to and be molded by human intention. In this way miracles can be and are performed.

Rudolph Steiner, Austrian genius and teacher who founded Anthroposophy, has repeatedly pointed to the same thing. And we go back thousands and thousands of years to the Hindu Vedas and to the mystical Christian teachings and to the Kabbalah of the Hebrews and find the same thing over and over and over again. As we look at all of this information in the gathering light of increasing knowledge by recognized scientists such as Ochsman, Tiller, Hawkins and others, we see the emergence of a Way and of a Path which can lead us in terms of each of us to a recognition of the truth within us. A path to the contact with God within us. A path to the creation of the society of good and truth. For wherever truth prevails, goodness and love must follow.
