Appreciation
by Guy Spiro

One of the ways I got off track as I grew up was by developing a tendency to look toward a better future. I suspect that it is pretty common for us to fail to appreciate all of the good in the present moment. Many, if not most, of us scarcely notice the present — or even view it with some disdain. It will be better when our ship comes in, or we get that new job, or new relationship, or when we have peace and harmony in the world and everyone sees the true loving nature of all of humanity. You get it, sometime in the future.

What we miss by focusing on the future is the glorious present. Sure, there is pain and suffering in the world. But that is because existence is based in duality. Even Jesus said we would always have our poor. But if you are reading these words, the chances are that you are in a warm, secure and probably pleasant place. As are the vast majority of the people of the region of the world in which you live. Sometimes I can’t believe how much modern humanity takes for granted. This is undoubtedly the best time to be alive in recorded history. If you live in one of the developed countries, especially the western democracies, and are not one of the unfortunate few who are in dire circumstances, then you are living a life of comfort and ease undreamed of by your ancestors.

In this month’s interview with Jim McCanney, you get a preview of the next big doomsday scenario. Jim has done a lot of research and he is probably right that, at some point, something like a Planet X event will occur. It could happen within the next ten or ten million years. You are going to hear from some people that it will be this May. I strongly suspect that May will come and go, and life as we know it will remain. But even thinking about that magnitude of disaster made me aware once again of how good we have it, and how important it is to savor every moment of this incredible life that we have. Just look about you right now. Soak in the colors that you see. Smell the air. Feel the vitality rushing through your body. Love those close to you. Enjoy the now.

On the next page you will find information about a global peace prayer and meditation event. I’m very happy to see this and encourage everyone to participate. This is the kind of activity that will not only bring about a political peace for the world, but will also fix any other problem we face. Including intruding comets from outer space.

If we will appreciate what we have, and gather together the light of our individual consciousness, then the world will be revealed as the garden that it was meant to be.
