Dear Louise, I’m struggling with one particular part of my life and would appreciate any advice you can offer me. I’m 30 years old, in a bit of a mess financially, and I still don’t know what I want to do for a living. To top it off, I always seem to work for very strange people. My current boss is rude to both his staff and customers, he talks down to everyone, and is not remotely generous or pleasant to be around. I’m working to improve my prosperity, but this isn’t going well, as I keep changing jobs because I can’t stand to work for these people anymore. Please help. All this is really starting to get me down. B. G., England Dear B.G., Remember, every person, place, and thing in our life is a reflection of our own thinking patterns. So the only thing we need to do is change the thoughts we’re choosing to think. In your case, you need to change the way you think about work. Let’s do some positive affirmations. An affirmation is a statement that’s going beyond the reality of the present into the creation of the future by the words you use in the now. Post these everywhere and say them often: Where I am now is temporary. Dear Louise, I’m from the Philippines. I’ve learned a lot of things from your books, and I’ve tried to apply them in my life. I’ve tried to follow the different exercises you’ve listed, chapter by chapter, but I get stuck in the part where I need to dissolve my resentments. I’ve tried to work on this every day, but the most I did was three weeks, and even then, it was hard to do on a daily basis. Then, I stopped altogether. I’m slowly beginning to “not love myself” again, and I feel that I’ve lost several opportunities since I stopped doing my affirmations. I just feel so impatient with this exercise and would very much appreciate it if you could give me suggestions on how to be motivated. Also, will I have to start all over again with this exercise because I stopped for a long time? A. F., The Philippines Dear A.F., The only moment we’re ever living in is this very moment. We don’t have to dip back into the past at all in order to make changes. We want to make this moment a pleasure to live. If you stay stuck in old resentments, then you can’t improve your future. Don’t make the past so important to you. No matter how justified you feel in blaming others, it will only delay your own good. You have to let this go if you want joy in your life. Here are some great thoughts to think: I love myself right now. I choose to think thoughts that make me feel good. I love being alive. I am grateful for every moment. I look forward to each day. I smile the moment I wake up in the morning. I find things to appreciate all day long. I say things to people to make them feel good. I am attracting joyous experiences in my life. All is well and I am safe. If you dwell only on these thoughts, your life will improve dramatically within one month. You can do anything for one month! Dear Louise, I’m feeling drawn to so many spiritual paths at the same time that I’m not sure which one to follow! I have a big fear of becoming dogmatic in following any one path, and I see spiritual truths in so many different paths. Is it possible to climb the mountain toward enlightenment by being spiritually eclectic, and, if not, how do I choose my divine right spiritual path? C.D., Boston, MA Dear C.D., The goodness of life is found in so many places. Well-being abounds wherever you turn if you look for it. There are many spiritual paths that are very uplifting and very supportive of the individual. You’ll find good in many of them. You’ll never become dogmatic if your heart is open. They’re all stepping-stones in your discovery of who you are and what brings you joy. No one group has all the answers. Love life. Be appreciative and grateful for everything, and know that you’re in process of being enlightened. All is well.
