Indigenous Prophecies: The End of the Old
and the Beginning of the New

Of course, I had heard that many indigenous traditions throughout the world predicted the ending of an earth cycle during the early part of the 21st Century. I had, for example, taken one of Gregg Braden’s workshops. Two separate incidents, however, recently brought these prophecies into front and center consciousness for myself and many others.

On March 23rd, I received an email from James Twyman’s Emissary of Light list (www.emissaryoflight.com) stating that he had important information to impart about his recent trip to Iraq. Jimmy and a group of spiritual leaders from around the world and within Iraq had joined together at the National Theater in Baghdad for an interfaith peace ceremony on the anniversary of the beginning of the war in Iraq. During the ceremony, each of the fifteen religious leaders stood up and offered peace prayers from their various traditions including Muslim, Christian, Jewish, Mayan, and Native American. It was the Native American and Mayan contributions that precipitated the conference call/chat sessions. In the email invitation, Jimmy stated:

“We knew this was going to be a life changing journey for all of us, but I don’t think any of us were ready for everything that happened, especially the information I would like to share with all of you at one of three conference calls ... This information is so important that I want to give as many people as possible the chance to hear it directly from me.”

The conference calls were combined with on-line chat rooms where questions could be asked. I decided to participate in the one scheduled for March 23rd. The primary focus of the sessions were the words of Chief Arvol Looking Horse, the renowned carrier of the White Buffalo Calf Pipe, and Jose Arguilles, the holder and interpreter of the Mayan Prophecies, who joined together to announce that this time period represents the completion of two prophecies that come from both their traditions.

Here is what these spiritual leaders had to say:

Chief Arvol Looking Horse: According to Chief Arvol, the signs of the prophecy started in the early 1990s prior to the Gulf War. Native American elders noted that when darkness and disease begin to descend, it is time to come together and pray for peace. They pointed to the giant eagle, symbol of power and peace. “Pay attention,” they said, “when eagle comes closer and closer to earth and doesn’t do things that are part of their own nature. That is a sign.” Chief Arvol stated that this is what is happening to the eagles now. All over the country, eagles are doing this. Walking around, picking through garbage for food. When we see this, it is time to pray.

Jose Arguilles: Jose Arguilles pointed out that the ancient city of Babylon is only one hour from Baghdad and that it is one of the most powerful places on the planet. This is where civilization began. Mayan tradition states that when we come full circle (back to Babylon), then we are entering the last cycle. With the war in Iraq, the full circle has been completed, and in July, we’ll be entering into the final approach for entering the last circle.

Part of prophecy is that people would go to the full circle place. For both Chief Arvol and Jose Arguilles, coming together in prayer for peace in Baghdad was the going to the full circle place. It also represented the coming together of two indigenous prophetic traditions with parallel messages.

The second incident occurred while I was preparing the copy for News from NSAC, the monthly email newsletter that I edit for the National Spiritualist Association of Churches. One of the segments of the newsletter features excerpts from Psychic World: The Voice of Spiritualism, a monthly newspaper published in Great Britain. The February 2004 issue just happened to have an article about Rainbow Eagle and The Seventh Fire Prophecy.

According to the article, Rainbow Eagle, along with other traditional elders, is fulfilling the Seventh Fire Prophecy to “once again share with the rest of the human family” Native American spirituality “so that they will have the original teachings to walk into the future with hope and optimism.” During this time, the prophecies say that Native American people and other “natural people” must assist in bringing the human family back together again.

A bundle was opened in early 1996 in a special ceremony to begin the sacred mission of the Peace Shield. Contained within the bundle is a sacred prayer pipe and large elk hide upon which the Peace Shield is drawn. The Seven Fire Prophecy foretold of this time to the ancient people. Seven prophets spoke of a Fire or Spiritual chapter, which described things which would happen to the people. The Seventh Prophet said that native ways would be honored and the Elders would again speak. Also shared was that the light skinned race would be given a choice between two roads: destruction, or the lighting of the Eighth and final fire, an age of peace, love, joy and oneness. In addition, the Seventh Fire foretold of the signals, which would be given to Native People so they would know when to act for the good of “All Relations.” The signals would include environmental concerns, risks to the destruction of humanity, high levels of technology, earth changes, and finally freedom for Native people to participate in their beliefs.

The Peace Shield is a reminder to Native people that in the Seventh Fire it would be their responsibility to assist and help bring the Human Family back together again. “These original truths of the Peace Shield are to be given to the Human Race for the last time so that each person can have what they need to decide the future of our Mother Earth.” The Peace Shield teaches the value, beauty, wisdom and wonder of walking into the future with great faith and absolutely no fear. In the past, the Peace Shield provided community and personal stability. It now charters for human kind a journey into the blessed future.

I decided to go on line and type in all three spiritual leaders at www.google.com. Of the three, Rainbow Eagle is the only one with an official web site. Rainbow Eagle: Seventh Fire Peace Shield Teacher (www.rainboweagle.com) is an attractive and easy to use site that contains sections like “The Teacher,” “The Author,” “The Learning Center,” and “Words from Rainbow Eagle.” “The Learning Center” features a book on the Peace Shield by Rainbow Eagle, videos, music inspired by the universal peace shield of truths, and children’s books. There is also a lot of information on the Web about Chief Avrol Looking Horse and Jose Arguilles. At www.dreamkeepers.net/3858/3891/ for example, you can listen to a short video of Chief Avrol explaining the meaning of Mitakuye Oyasin, read articles like “Who Cares For Peace?,” and order a 48-page book entitled White Buffalo Teachings from Chief Arvol Looking Horse. During my search on Jose Arguilles, I discovered and went to the Glastonbury Archive: Crystal Journey 21 site (http://www.isleofavalon.co.uk/GlastonburyArchive/ivan/CJ21.html) and discovered that this spiritual leader and author of The Surfers of the Zuvuya, was the initiator of the Harmonic Convergence, that high point of the 20th Century when so many of us gathered in groups throughout the world to pray for peace.

The key thought to bring away from this discussion is that all three indigenous messages are similar in a very basic way. All three prophecies focus on the choice that human beings are called upon to make right now in the face of the ending of the old and the beginning of the new. That choice is: Are we going to continue with the old ego-based laws—or are we willing to shift our minds and hearts and, therefore, shift the world into a new creation based on peace, love, joy and oneness?
