Choosing Again Our Weapon System—
From WMD to WMT
By Rev. Festus Umeojiego

“Thoughts are things and thoughts think ... have the power of secondary reproduction after their own kind.” —Charles Fillmore

As we approach the season for our national Thanksgiving celebration, I believe that hope is in the air, and we have reason to turn our minds towards the spirit of Thanksgiving. There are always reasons to be thankful.

Recent years, however, have been especially challenging and tough on many minds, and especially so on spiritually sensitive individuals. Our minds have been captive victims of an atmosphere dominated by the fog of wars whose energy has been diffuse and without clearly defined edges. Wars of any kind and for whatever reason are among the greatest evils mankind has ever allowed its mind to accommodate and to inflict on one another. And when the edges of a war are indefinable, its pervasive domination of the mind takes a toll on the human psyche. At times, wars have been hot and heavy, but most of the time the diffuse nature of war holds the spirit in an atmosphere that seems to smolder with lingering, choking smoke. All in all, the mental atmosphere has sometimes felt like being in a Los Angeles fog, never lifting enough to see anything with clarity. For some, this has created a feeling of helplessness, never knowing what to do to clear the air and get a spiritual grip on reality. Sometimes, there is a feeling of resignation, thinking that since we are dealing with a faceless and shapeless enemy (regardless of what or whom one thinks the enemy to be), we have to meet his Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) with our own WMDs, or resign ourselves to such weapons as others may choose for us.

But now I believe that the fog in our consciousness is beginning to lift enough for us to uncover an old weapon system in our arsenal. It is a weapon that seems to have been gathering dust from lack of use. We seem to have lost faith in it in the face of a sudden mental and psychical onslaught brought upon us by an ill-defined enemy. This has created a numbness, a consciousness amnesia in us, and we seem to have forgotten this old, tried and proven weapon.

Remember the Cold War, the Arms Race, Apartheid, the Berlin Wall? Remember the 100th Monkey? Remember Millennium Vigils, the Harmonic Convergence? Now is the time to take this old weapon off the shelf and dust it off. We need to replace the consciousness dominated by thoughts of WMD with one of a WMT, a Weapon of Mass Transformation—victim consciousness replaced by Mastery Consciousness.

This is not to suggest that up until now, spiritually minded people have not been at work all this time. Indeed, there is a lot of evidence that many have been at work to transform the atmosphere of fear into an atmosphere of love. There are thousands of spiritually awake individuals who never lost their spiritual grip on reality, not even under the most difficult circumstances of our recent times. If you have not done so yet, please join them in using the Weapon of Mass Transformation now to replace fear, to allow love to transform fear. Fear, like free radicals, has been running rampant in our world’s, and especially our nation’s, thought atmosphere. It is time we arrest this enemy and put it on a leash, or even better, in solitary confinement. Let’s seal the door where the evil of fear dwells. Fear is the force that drives the consciousness of Weapons of Mass Destruction. Nothing unleashes the weapons of war like fear.

By the time you read this, the elections will be over and we will have selected our next President to lead this country and help shape the nature of the world for the conceivable future. Maybe your candidate won or did not win. Regardless of the outcome, this is the time to look upward and thank God. The truth is that this election is only one level of choice, the human level. We have other, more important choices to make. We have to choose the state of consciousness that will shape and run the world, which goes beyond who the President happens to be. Let’s give thanks that we are awakening to the fact that we can choose and shape the world with our consciousness, our thoughts, and the resulting actions. We can return now, again to an old and proven weapon, the weapon of transforming Love.

This is bigger and more important and more powerful than we sometimes think. You and I have to look beyond present appearances and continue to choose, again and again. We have to choose our thoughts, which determine the dominant energy we pump into the universe and our world. In both science and spirituality, it is more accepted now that thoughts have the power to produce after their own character. “Thoughts are things and thoughts think ... have the power of secondary reproduction after their own kind,” to paraphrase Charles Fillmore, the cofounder of the Unity movement.

I believe that the tide of human consciousness has turned once again, towards an awareness of the power of love. We have a lot to be thankful for in this season of Thanksgiving. Gratitude is very high energy thinking and is one of the ways we unleash the great energy of love into our world. Love is our Weapon of Mass Transformation, and it is time to let it do its perfect work in our world. So, in this season, let’s look up and say, “Thanks to You, God!”
