The Presence of Love: God’s Answer to Humanity’s Call for Help by Paul Ferrini. (Heartways Press, $12.95, Paperback.) Ferrini feels that the human family is at a crossroads now, that we can no longer live as we have lived in the past. We can no longer afford to be sloppy, careless, or impulsive with our creations. We need to create compassionately and be responsible for what we create. This is a time of great energy. It is a time when the potential for healing and transformation is greater than it has ever been before. If we are ready to heal, this is a good thing. If we aren’t, it is a scary time to be alive. He says our work of love is calling to us, that our gift is needed, and that without it the world cannot be lifted up out of darkness. Even Jesus Has a Booth at the Better Life Convention by Frank L. Training for the Marathon of Life: Choosing Jesus as Our Life Coach by Peter Watson Jenkins. (Resource Publications, $18.00, Paperback.) In every age, followers have followed Jesus’ coaching, working for the Good Society which, he asserted, is created by God’s loving will. His grassroots approach to personal and social reform is compared with the failed social and political philosophies of our day. Author Peter Watson Jenkins has thoughtfully picked the fruits of modern scholarship, making them available for all to ponder, enjoy, and adopt, as Jesus’ authentic coaching. He explains how his life as a student changed when, after reading Jesus’ message for himself, he chose Jesus as his coach for his lifelong marathon. Training for the Marathon of Life is not just a Bible study; it’s a call to action, an invitation for us all to play our part in creating the Good Society. The QOD Diet: Eating Well Every Other Day: Set Free the Real You by John T. Daugirdas, M.D. (White Swan Publishing, $18.95, Paperback.) The QOD diet is less onerous than other diets. Because one reduces food intake only every other day, one can always look forward to a day of normal eating the next day. Most people have trouble in markedly lowering the amount of food they eat even for one day. Dr. Daugirdas believes that feeling poorly when not eating much is due to loss of sodium and other minerals by the kidneys. He suggests that by taking in sodium, potassium, and other minerals, plus high-biologic-value protein, while eating a small number of calories, you can continue to feel well and keep up your energy level. In addition to letting people eat well every other day, the QOD diet may have a metabolic advantage. Normally, when a person goes on a diet, survival and starvation mechanisms kick in and fuel is burned more efficiently. The body learns to get by with less. With this diet, the body still senses a normal amount of food coming in every other day, so it doesn’t feel the need to go into protection mode and drop the metabolic rate. Whispers from the Woods: The Lore and Magic of Trees by Sandra Kynes. (Llewellyn Worldwide, $17.95, Paperback.) Trees are a gateway into the world of spirit.
