In recent months, I've been discussing the exciting discoveries in quantum physics and cell biology that relate to spirituality and sound. Lynne McTaggart, bestselling author of The Field, has expanded upon merely bringing information together. Her latest book, The Intention Experiment, outlines ways that we can all participate in this fascinating work.

She recommends reading this new book, and if you're interested, log on to the website, www.theintentionexperiment.com, to join with others in going beyond merely reading to taking part in various actions. What makes it particularly of interest for me is that many leading scientists are involved, and there will be ways of measuring what occurs.

On a related note, I wrote last year about another sound-centered event taking place on February 14. Since this is a day that already incorporates the heart in symbol and intention, you may be interested in knowing about a sound-assisted meditation called World Sound Healing Day. For the past few years, people throughout the planet have joined together to project a sonic valentine of love and appreciation to Gaia, our Earth Mother.

The ground rules are pretty flexible, according to the email I just received. I'll get into that in a moment. I was particularly intrigued that there is a research component as well, involving the Global Consciousness Project. I've discussed their extraordinary work in the past, and it's fully covered in The Field and other online search engines. It is estimated that if 8,000 people coordinate their chanting, a measurable difference can be detected. I figure it's worth a try, at least. It's free, and we don't have to leave home to join the group.

According to the instructions I received, we are encouraged to chant the non-denominational, cross-cultural sacred syllable “Ah” as a mantra for a minimum of 5 minutes. Of course, you can chant longer. One can do this by oneself or with a group, at any time during the course of the day.

I assume the greatest coordination will occur at high noon in the Eastern time zone in this country (9:00 a.m. here on the West Coast). That's a lot easier than the global meditation around New Year's Eve that works out to 4:00 a.m. here in California.

There is also a live internet-enabled website that is intended to allow interactive toning. It'll be interesting to see, hear and feel what we do. For more information, visit: www.templeofsacredsound.org.

Super Bowl, Improvisation and Intention

If you were one of the millions who watched the game, you witnessed something really extraordinary at the end. “The Play” that set up the winning score was, I believe, an example of magic in action. How did Eli Manning get free of the tacklers? How did he even see the receiver, who was surrounded by Patriots? And how did David Tyree manage to catch that ball and hold on to it, as he fell onto his head, ending up in a backbend that even a veteran yogi would be challenged to maintain? That's the magic of football.

I wonder if that was measured by the Global Consciousness Project. I'll report on that next time.
