Ho’oponopono, November 4th, and Beyond “Love is all there is.” (John Lennon) Peacefully navigating the turbulence of the times in which we are living can require radical wisdom and spiritual depth. The people of our country are deeply divided in opinion and outlook. The presidential election that is fast approaching will determine policies that affect each and every one of us, as well as the future of this planet. On both “sides” there is anxiety, judgment, and blame. May love prevail. May the candidate who is in the highest interest of our nation and our world prevail. Radical Responsibility From 1984-87, psychologist Dr. Hu Len was able to transform a dangerous ward of violent and criminally insane individuals through Ho’oponopono, an ancient Hawaiian process based on taking one hundred percent responsibilityfor everything. Dr. Len did not see the patients in traditional therapy sessions at the Hawaii State Hospital. He did not counsel the patients at all. He read their charts individually day after day, and cleaned and cleared within himself the memories and disturbances of the people he was treating. According to Dr. Len, there is no “out there.” Addressing Divinity, he repeated: “I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.” Continuing to take total responsibility within himself, he began to see dramatic changes on the ward. It shifted from chaos and violence into a desirable place to work, and was finally closed because all but two of the patients recovered. It has not reopened since. Ho’oponopono involves radical responsibility and radical love. Because we are one with All That Is, we are empowered to change our outer circumstances by changing ourselves. This is a dynamic and proven spiritual principle. It works. I have seen remarkable changes within my own life since I have adopted Ho’oponopono. Huge family dramas are settling down and resolving. Exciting opportunities are opening up as I continue to clean myself from within. Regarding the conditions in our world, if one man can heal acute mental illness and violence in many people by cleaning up his own life, what else might be possible? Judgment, frustration, and fear of others are often expressed unconsciously. When first practicing Ho’oponopono, a miraculous recognition quickly emerges: there is no behavior that you encounter or criticize in others that is not a part of you. We all possess destructiveness, bitterness, and hostility. Anything uncomfortable or disturbing “outside you” becomes an opportunity to clean within yourself. This is not about guilt. It is about humility, transformation and total freedom. It is about connecting with Divine Love, cleaning and clearing our collective memories, and experiencing pure inspiration from within. “I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.” Most people reading this publication would agree that this election will deeply impact the promise and evolution of the age in which we live. Spiritual principles such as Ho’oponopono offer a clear means of turning the tidesthrough November and far beyond. But we must take one hundred percent responsibility for our country and the condition it is in. Blame is debilitating. When we focus on blame, we compromise our power to change. Blaming George Bush or the lobbyists or corporate greed or Mickey Mouse isn’t going to change a thing. Demonstrating Ho’oponopono As I share this prayer, I am addressing Divinity, the Oneness, Infinite Source. I am feeling total responsibility from the depths of my heart for anything within me (and therefore within All That Is) that is not love: “I love you. I love Divinity, that which I am, and you are, and all else is. I’m sorry for intolerance, prejudice and hatred. I clean these within myself, my ancestors, my past lifetimes, and within all humanity. Please forgive me for my lack of compassion and understanding, and for my unconscious abuse of nature, animals, and the earth. I’m sorry for ignorance, dishonesty and corruption within me. (To Divinity) I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you. Please forgive me for putting my own self-interests first. I’m sorry for misusing power, for violence and narrow-mindedness, for my greed and financial irresponsibility. I’m sorry for thoughtless and hurried action that results in disaster for others. Please forgive me for my arrogance and lack of diplomacy. I’m sorry for fear, blame, judgment and despair within me. I’m sorry for believing in the illusion of separation, that there is an ‘other.’ Thank you for this opportunity to clean and clear all of these mistaken tendencies and memories within myself, my friends and family, my ancestors, my past lifetimes, and within all humanity, back to the beginning of time. I am deeply grateful for the healing within me that is already taking place, and for the transformation in my ‘outer’ world as a result.” Radical Love My friend Mark suggested recently that perhaps Ho’oponopono can help us understand the metaphysical meaning of Jesus “dying for our sins.” Was Christ willing to assume complete responsibility for anything within humanity that was not the truth of who we are, that was not love? Was this the source of his miraculous ability to heal? By embracing and living Ho’oponopono, this same tender and all-encompassing love can blossom within each of us. We can discover pure and lasting peace inside. As more and more people allow this to happen, our gorgeous earth and her precious inhabitants can begin to recover from the effects of blame, fear, ancient rivalries, judgment, anger, hatred and greed. We can each take responsibility to clean and clear these tendencies as they arise within ourselves and the circumstances of our lives. We can develop the radical spiritual maturity to clean and clear our world of these mistaken and misguided memories, passed down from generation to generation for millennia. “I love you. I’m sorry. Please forgive me. Thank you.” One man cured a ward of the criminally insane by cleaning within himself. Together, we can clean up the insanity in our worldnot by being distressed or judgmental about it, but by realizing that it is within ourselves alone that change occurs. When we adopt this new awareness, so much more than we have ever imagined becomes possible. Although I embrace many teachers and many paths, I have always contemplated and felt the truth of the promise of Jesus: “All this and more will you do.” I have waited for clarity. When and how would this be possible? Now, through the practice of Ho’oponopono, there is a simple, ancient process to light the way.
Jennie Landfield coaches individuals in the practice of Ho’oponopono, and holds conference calls, tele-classes, workshops, and special events. She also reads the Akashic Records, and soothes people in hospice during their transition with the Native American flute. www.spiritwilling.net or happyjennie@hotmail.com.
