Guy Spiro: I always like to start by asking people to briefly tell their story. What was the evolution of coming to be who you are and coming to do what you do? Stephen Co: I started in 1988. I wasn’t interested in doing healing, spiritual work or anything like that. However, my wife fell from fourteen feet and broke her hip bone and the doctor said it would be three and a half months before she could put any weight on it. GS: What kind of work were you doing? SC: I was an engineer, doing part time sales. After her injury, I was traveling in the Philippines and I was looking for a way to speed up the healing process. Three and a half months was just way too long. That’s when I met Grand Master Choa Kok Sui in a class that he was teaching. I was hesitant to take the class because of my background; as I mentioned, I was an engineer, and I was also a strict and very devout Southern Baptist. Put the two together and you can imagine how resistant I was. But out of desperation, I said I would try anything. I took the class and then worked on her three times a day. In two weeks, she could walk. In five weeks, she literally ran across the room. Both of us were shocked. This was all done with me doubting the whole time. I was just following a step by step protocol ... in pranic healing we use protocols. I followed the protocol in the book for broken bones and just worked on it. Without me feeling anything at all, I didn’t feel energy or anything, I just did it step by step and I was surprised that it worked. I tried it on my mom who used to have bad indigestion. We teach distant healing, but at that time I thought, man that’s the weirdest thing in the world, how can you work on someone without them being physically present? In pranic healing we don’t touch, so it was hard enough for me to comprehend that there could be something going on without me touching someone. Of course, my wife was improving; but then, to do it across the miles and see a result ... GS: It’s very interesting that it worked even though you were doubting SC: I was working on my mom on the phone. She was belching, and she said, “I don’t know what you’re doing, but it’s working!” So that’s how I got started into it. My teacher told me to teach in the United States and I’ve been doing it ever since. GS: It’s amazing that it worked with you not believing; because, of course, believing would tend to increase the effectiveness of it a great deal, wouldn’t it? SC: That’s the point I’m trying to make. In pranic healing, we work with a cookbook approach. The body knows how to heal itself, we know that. Talk to any medical doctor, they know that the body heals itself. But what people don’t realize is that for the body to repair itself, it consumes a fuel and that fuel is the life force, chi, prana, depending on who you talk to. And the body doesn’t just absorb haphazardly whatever there is, there’s an actual system, that the body absorbs and consumes the energy and releases by-products. In pranic healing, even though you’re not really that sensitive or fully believing in it, if you follow the step by step techniques, you can remove blockage and do certain breathing and visualization techniques that allow the body to absorb healing energy. Even if the practitioner is not that conductive or super receptive to it, as long as he can provide that energy to the body of subject, the body starts utilizing it to heal itself. It’s an amazing thing. GS: Of course, what too many people don’t get is that we are completely connected up; it’s just that we tend not to realize it. SC: You’re absolutely right. We’re connected to each other. We’re connected to the universe. And the life force is the glue that connects everybody. GS: You’re utilizing The Lord’s Prayer, which I teach and utilize myself in my own practice. I find that it is really meant to be a means of changing consciousness and learning to shape the unformedthe life forceinto the formed, consciously. SC: In pranic healing, we work with eleven major chakras. In the Kabbalah, they have ten sephirah plus one hidden sephiroth which equals eleven. The eleven major chakras in pranic healing and the eleven sephirah in the Kabbalah match exactly. GS: What a surprise. [laughter] SC: The Lord’s Prayer actually predates the time of the Lord Jesus. GS: Yes, of course. SC: Our’s is, “Our Father who art in heaven ...” and so on. There’s actually an Egyptian prayer that goes “Amen, Amen, who art in heaven ...” and the rest of the prayer is almost identical. That was over 5,000 years ago, and what my teacher shared with us is that each of the lines of the Lord’s Prayer is a password or a trigger line to activate the eleven major chakras. So the way we do the Lord’s Prayer is not the traditional way of repeating it. “Our Father” would trigger the crown, “who art in heaven” would trigger the forehead, and so on and so on. GS: However one approaches it, the power is not in repeating the words, it’s in the experience of it. SC: Exactly. With the pranic healing approach, the whole energy body lights up, the chakras are cleansed, a tremendous amount of spiritual energy comes down, and the kundalini energy is awakened. All this through a prayer that everybody knows, but is not aware of the power that is there and what can really be done with it. GS: It’s interesting that you come from a Southern Baptist background. It can be hard to go from that to the Lord just simply is the life force, not the Guy in the Sky with the white beard who blesses and smites. SC: Everything is energy and the ancient sages have said, God is pure consciousness and every particle of us is part of God. There are many prayers and many different religions and all of them lead to the same path. Coming from the Southern Baptist background, it was an eye opener, let’s put it that way. GS: Talk a little about how the pranic healing system works. Give us a little step by step. SC: In pranic healing, all the principles are clearly explained and the mechanism is clearly stated. You are given step by step techniques and there are different applications for different ailments and disorders. The way it works is, first, after we interview the person, we use our hands to scan the energy field. Scanning means you try to feel if there are areas of depletion, areas of blockages, areas of uneven flow. After that we match this with a particular protocol, or recipe as we call it. For people that are not professionals, we tell them there’s a recipe for your headache, there’s a recipe for your backache. These recipes are from over thirty years of experimentation by my teacher. One thing they noticed, with the help of people who see energy, is that a speech ailment has a unique energy pattern. Someone with a migraine headache has a specific set of chakras malfunctioning. Menstrual cramps, cancer, phobias, each of these have a unique energy pattern. You can teach someone, even without a background in healing, the protocols that have worked for other people who have the same problems. So if someone comes in with menstrual cramps you say okay, cramps, after I scan you and I confirm the areas that are affected, I just follow a step by step process of removing the blockage, called sweeping. That’s about 75% of the treatment, or session. We do a lot of cleansing to remove blockages. It’s interesting ... just by doing that alone, most people, within five minutes feel some kind of improvement. Clear the blockages and fresh prana or chi is able to rush into the body and the body is already repairing itself after five or ten minutes of cleaning. After that, the healer does certain breathing exercises to pull certain energies from specific chakras of their body through their system and into the client’s body. This is very important because a lot of healers, when they don’t consciously do this, they drain themselves. In pranic healing, we’re very careful that you are never to drain yourself. If you’re the healer, you must allow the life force to flow through you in a step by step, systematic manner. GS: Exactly, you can’t be depleted if you’re drawing on the life force itself. SC: The problem is if you’re not really focusing on how to pull the energy in, a good intention is nice, but a lot of times people with good intentions start draining themselves, they are not aware that they need to pull in more energy than they’re giving out. GS: Well, you don’t want to use your own energy when you can use all of the energy of existence. SC: Exactly, but again, it has to do with technique. After we work on them, we stabilize the energy so it stays in the body and the next thing we do is to take care of the practitioner. We have a technique called Energy Hygiene where we make sure to cut energy cords, we do practices to clean the energy field, to flush any “contamination” that may have gone into our bodies. We have a lot of health professionals. In each class we have twenty-thirty percent massage therapists, physical therapists; we have a lot of ministers, psychologists, lay people who are just interested in healing, and we have a lot of Reiki Masters that take the class. One thing they tell me after taking the class, they notice pranic healing augments and supplements what they’re already doing. One of the things they really like is how we break down the concept of what the life force is, how it affects our bodies, and more importantly, how it can help people without absorbing clients’ stuff or draining themselves. It brings such joy to see we can all work together since we all have the same objective. GS: And all of this is in your book, Your Healing Hands? SC: It’s all spelled out, step by step, like a cookbook. The first technique is how you sweep energy out of the body. Then, how you do breathing to bring energy into your body, and in later chapters, we actually have a set of recipes or protocols, for headache, back pain, and so on. People can really learn just by reading the book. If they want to actually practice it and watch somebody do it and be trained, we do have trainings that we’re offering. We know that anyone with the right intention and with a loving heart can easily do this. GS: Excellent, and of course, any of these things will work when we understand what we’re dealing with. SC: Right, but even when I didn’t exactly know what I was doing at first, and was even doubting that it could work, thank God, it still worked. GS: That’s one of the things I find the most interesting about what you’re saying. You’re having it work without belief which I have seen as tending to be pretty important. Even mainstream medicine is having to finally admit to what they call “the placebo effect,” which is totally dependent on belief. SC: Well, it works better. It’s not whether it works or doesn’t work. If the practitioner is open to the energy and the subject is receptive, it’s going to work a lot better than if they’re not. The person has to be willing to help someone. If they are willing and follow the technique, they will see success. If they want continuous long term improvement and success, then the more receptive they are, the higher the probability of substantial improvement. GS: Sustained improvement can be an issue. You can correct an imbalance in somebody, but if they go back to their old habits, what’s going to happen? SC: Not only do we clean their energy field and balance the energy and give their body energy to heal itself, we also try to also educate the person. What caused this, was it a negative emotion? Was it the lack of a spiritual practice? After we educate them in that, we send them home with a meditation CD that teaches a self-healing meditation. You take one finger, press Play, and in fifteentwenty minutes you flush out your stress, you have more clarity. On our website www.yourhandscanhealyou.com, we put it up for free so that everyone who gets on the site can download it or play it online. It’s a gift to the world. We have a technique called meditation between hearts. When a person is very busy or stressed out, they feel the stress, the emotion and so on, but when they’re busy helping someone else, they forget their own problems. So we do this meditation that activates the heart, and when you help someone, you are stimulating your heart center. When the heart center is activated, it triggers the crown, when the crown and heart are triggered, tremendous amounts of divine energy comes down, which is the energy of the I Am within. When you do this meditation between hearts, within fifteen minutes the downpouring of spiritual energy does two things. Number one, it flushes your chakras and your aura. Number two, it increases your connection with the I Am or the higher soul within you. When you do this meditation, so much divine energy comes down that you have more clarity of mind. You have emotional confidence. Your connection to your higher self, your higher soul, or God, depending on who you talk to, empowers you to be able to do a lot of things in your life. It affects your health, your family, your job ... and this is one of those simple meditations. GS: The desire to help others is important. SC: It’s the critical part of pranic healing. GS: It’s almost as if it’s better to give than to receive. [laughter] SC: Those who are attracted to the class and to the book often notice that we focus first on how to help others, heal others. We do self healing on the second day. Many say, I thought you were supposed to work on yourself before you work on others. I know a lot of people think that, but in reality, we are all one. When you work on yourself, you can be biased; when you work on someone else, you have immediate feedback. In class, we practice this on each other. Once you get the concept, it’s obvious, “I’ve worked on other people, now I know how to work on myself.” You’re absolutely right, our focus is to be of service to others and humanity. GS: Working on others is working on yourself. SC: There’s oneness. GS: One of the funny things is that you don’t have to learn how to be connected. You just have to realize that you are connected. SC: You hit it on the head. It’s not a matter of finding who the I Am is, it’s a matter of realizing that it’s already there. GS: I think in terms of illumination, the things we think of as negative, as darkness, can’t exist in the light, and as we illuminate in consciousness, they tend to fall off by themselves. SC: Realization, as you said, and discovery. As we discover this life force and this energy, we better ourselves. We discover who we really are, and that’s why they call it illumination because you are a being of light. As you try to peel off the ignorance, as you peel off the inability to know who you really are, you reveal the light. GS: You’re coming to Chicago. SC: That’s correct, September 1417, we’ll be at several of the New Thought churches and a few therapy places and we’ll do a wide range of things. We’re going to do Super Brain Yoga which is an ancient Indian technique to increase intelligence. We’re going to talk about the Lord’s Prayer and have people practice it. It will show the depth of pranic healing and how the life force can be used not only heal, but to increase your spirituality. We even talk a little of Buddhism, and how to use the teachings of the Lord Buddha in your everyday life, to be more objective and not emotionally react to situations in your life. From October 24 is when we’ll do the intensive; we actually sit down from 9:00 in the morning until 11:00 at night, Friday, Saturday and Sunday, and have the pranic healing classes. We’re excited to come back to Chicago because we’ve noticed that there are a lot people who are serious about how to improve themselves and be of service to others. Through pranic healing, we can give them simple and effective tools they can use immediately.
